Muchas veces cuando queremos acceder a nuestra cuenta de correo en Gmail usando la aplicación por defecto que viene en un iPhone, iPad o iPod Touch o usando iMail en OS X obtenemos esta respuesta:
No se puede recibir correo. El servidor de correo «imap.gmail.com» no responde. Compruebe que la información de la cuenta en los ajustes de Mail es correcta
El problema surge incluso si nuestros datos como nombre de usuario y contraseña son correctos, y aparece en forma aleatoria y de forma misteriosamente intermitente, lo más curioso del caso es que muchas veces nos deja envíar correo sin problemas lo cual sugiere que trabajando con SMTP no hay ningún obstáculo.
Google ya se ha dado cuenta de este problema y ha ofrecido algunas soluciones para el problema: No se puede recibir correo. El servidor de correo «imap.gmail.com» no responde. Compruebe que la información de la cuenta en los ajustes de Mail es correcta
Soluciones:
Desbloquear el captcha de Google
Parece que hay un código captcha que evita que accedamos con cierta frecuencia a los servidores, quizá en un exceso de celo por posibles ataques, bloqueando el puerto IMAP, lo que tenemos que hacer es ingresar desde el navegador de nuestro iPhone, iPad o iPod Touch a esta dirección:
https://www.google.com/accounts/DisplayUnlockCaptcha
Aqui debemos ingresar nuestra dirección de correo y contraseña, luego el código de caracteres que se ven en la imagen (código captcha) y presionamos el botón Desbloquear como se puede ver a continuación:
Luego de esto la aplicación de email en nuestro dispositivo ya debería poder acceder a nuestra cuenta de Gmail usando el puerto IMAP
Pero si esto falla…
Cerrar otras aplicaciones
Si nuestro dispositivo tiene soporte multitarea (iOS 4 u anterior usando por ejemplo Backgrouder) puede que alguna de las aplicaciones abiertas y funcionando al mismo tiempo esté ocasionando el problema, probemos cerrando todas las otras aplicaciones y dejando solo activo el cliente de mail.
Pero si esto también falla…
Eliminar nuestra cuenta en la aplicación de nuestro dispositivo y volverla a crear
Eliminamos la cuenta que tenemos creada en la aplicación de email en nuestro dispositivo, cerramos la aplicación, reiniciamos el dispositivo y volvemos a crear una cuenta con nuestros datos habituales.
Si todo lo demás falló..
Podemos intentar reemplazar el nombre del servidor IMAP
Esto funcionará solo en aquellos dispositivos con un cliente que permita elegir el nombre de los servidores IMAP, tenemos que reemplazar el servidor por defecto que es este:
imap.gmail.com
Pos este otro:
imap.googlemail.com
Espero que algunas de estas soluciones les sean útiles para el problema No se puede recibir correo. El servidor de correo «imap.gmail.com» no responde.

Me pasaba lo mismo y por mas que hacia lo que recomendabais nada de nada. El caso es que viajo mucho y al conectarme desde diferentes sitios siempre me pedía el captcha.
Solución poner una contraseña complicada Letras números y algún .-,( . Resolvio el problema. La mis anterior era muy tonta y solo números

Lo del problema IMAP de gmail en el Ipad esta facil de resolver, este mensaje me daba cada vez que entraba a mi correo y no lograba actualizar, el gmail usa un puerto 993 y es necesario abrirlo en tu appliance o firewall.

A mi tampoco se me abre el link con la opcion de desbloquear Captcha, solamente me pide usuarui y contraseña y dice que reinicie la cuenta en 10 minutos.

Luego probé borrar la cuenta, apagar, y volver a cargarla y se solucionó.
